Netflix finally releases epic trailer for “insane” sequel to one of its best action movies

Netflix has released an extended trailer for Charlize Theron action sequel The Old Guard 2, giving a closer look at Uma Thurman in a villainous role.

A follow-up to the 2020 hit streaming film, The Old Guard 2 sees Theron’s Andy and her mercenary pals facing a new enemy in Thurman’s powerful baddie.

In the clip above, Andy is back protecting humanity from all sorts of dangers, despite having herself lost her immortality during the events of the first film.

When her group are threatened by Thurman’s villain, Andy enlists the help of new character Tuah, played by Henry Golding, who seems to know a few things about the new enemy.

“She is the first of the Immortals,” he tells Andy. “She knows your histories, your relationships…”

“Do you think she knows that I’ve lost my immortality?” Andy replies.

Meanwhile, Andy is also being hounded by Quynh (Veronica Ngô), with the trailer seeing the Immortal being fished out of the water and released from the iron maiden she was trapped in.

Now roaming free, Quynh is determined to find Andy, and let’s just say it won’t be the friendliest of reunions.

The film – previously described as containing “insane action” by Theron – is directed by Victoria Mahoney, who replaces The Old Guard director Gina Prince-Bythewood.

Old Guard screenwriter Greg Rucka, who penned the graphic novel that’s the source material for the franchise, returns for this one too.

The cast remains stacked, with stars Luca Marinelli, Marwan Kenzari, KiKi Layne, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Matthias Schoenaerts all reprising their roles from the first film.

The Old Guard 2 is released on Netflix on 2 July.
